Abstract

ENGLISH This article aimed to describe three focuses: first, how sounds of language signify its meaning; second, how the composition of sounds corresponds to the composition of meaning; and third, what are the proofs that the sounds of al-Qur’an verses compose its meanings. The research approach of this article is a qualitative approach using library research. Based on phonological and semantic studies, this research concludes that the relation between words and their meaning in Arabic is natural; sounds of al-Qur’an, therefore, indicate its meaning; and it can be proven by analyzing al-Qur’an from a phonological and semantic perspective.
